This practical session gives students the opportunity to experience using top of the range sport science equipment in the classroom setting. We will bring timing gates, jump mats, light pods and more to your school and set up in your (single court) gymnasium or other large space.
This ~90 minute (double period) session allows all students to get involved in the testing and interact with the sport science software.
Here's how it works:
1. We will introduce the fitness tests and make several links to content applicable in your curriculum (10-15 minutes). We can discuss concepts such as fitness testing, training methods, training principles, energy systems, and biomechanics.
2. After a warm-up, students will be split into small groups of 3-6 and rotate between a 20m sprint, vertical jump, reaction wall test, co-ordination test, balance test, anaerobic capacity test, agility test, grip strength test, and flexibility test (70-80 minutes).
3. Students use their phones or other smart device to record their results into a Google Form, which we plot into graphs via excel and send through later in the week. The graphs include all individual results and a class average so you can determine which fitness components should be focused on for a training program.
